A Warning

Dear Republicans, new and old:
Should you believe, once this heady time of ”we the people” is past, that you may continue your ruinous and rapacious ways, we here at Simon Jester – and indeed, all across the country – would advise you to think again.
No more “stimulus” that stimulates exactly nothing.
No more government “support” of private industry.
No more pushing through legislation that you freely admit you did not read.
No. More.
Either act like adults charged with the responsible management of this country, instead of drunken teenagers with mom’s credit card, or we will un-elect you at the first opportunity.
Have a nice day.

Pity we cannot rig it so the first thing Boehner and the other spend-and-spend Republican chairmen see on arriving in their offices is a Simon log with a nice note like “We put you in here and we can take you out even faster.”
It will be interesting to see if we get a legislature of citizen-legislators like Gospodin de la Paz and Davis or just a reprise of Mort the Wart.

I’m new to your blog (via instapundit this morning) so maybe I don’t know something I’m expected to know but isn’t that a letter to the Democrats?

I strongly agree with these statements and urge others to comment here by way of an inpromptu petition. We need to stress to the Republican leadership that this election is not a mandate of standard Republican practices, but an opportunity for them to prove they can govern responsibly. Their feet must be held to the fire until their toes are well-toasted, with a threat of worse if they return to business as usual.

@wombat: No, it is exactly to the incumbent and newly elected Republicans.

@Wyoh: Gotcha. I realized the point when I saw the T-shirt ad below the post. The Tea Party is still in its infancy but has already made a difference. Let’s hope we’re up to full speed by 2012 and get this country moving in the right direction for a change.

to paraphrase cosby : i put you in that office and i can take you out of it.

Policies MATTER! The Republicans continue to believe that if they just say “principles” enough then they’ll get a pass. McCain-Feingold. McCain-Kennedy. TARP. We’ll have to develop a new way of collecting money for specific policies and let politicians sign a promise to support or be PERSONALLY responsible for paying it back.
November 2nd, 2010
@SenatorMark4: If “personally responsible” actually meant “legally liable” then that would certainly be a step in the right direction.
November 2nd, 2010
Amen!

“No more government “support” of private industry”?? How is that ever going to happen? As long as private industry is able to buy politicians with its money (both soft and hard), politicians of both parties will continue to kiss the hand that feeds them.
November 2nd, 2010
stjoe, I think you may have answered your own question.
November 2nd, 2010
Well said, Simon Jester!

Exactly. And an even broader message to pols of both parties:
LISTEN UP! We threw the GOP out in 2006 and 2008 because they acted like irresponsible pigs with our money. We are in the process of throwing Democrats out for growing government and trampling freedom for the same reason. And we will continue to keep whacking all of you atop your heads with the ballot box until enough of you morons get a clue.
It ain’t over–it is just beginning.

If the new Congress doesn’t make deep changes (beyond the shallow wedge issues both parties are always yelling about), it is going to be time for a 3rd party. This eternal pitting of the appalling against the worse is unacceptable.

“No more pushing through legislation that you freely admit you did not read.”
When did the Republicans do this?

@wombat:
Even though repubs have not been guilty lately, jesters warning is still adressed to them. He is assuming that the coming wave will sweep away the dems, so they will have already been punished. It is a warning to the incoming repubs that if they are no better than the dems we just got rid of, then they will be swept away too, in 2012.
The only open point is, if the repubs backslide and need to go, will it be best to sweep them away in repub primaries, or by forming a 3rd party.
November 2nd, 2010
No more “stimulus.”
that stimulates exactly nothingFIFY.

[...] It’s too early to tell what the results of today’s elections will be. But Simon Jester has a timely warning for Republicans who may be tempted to take their victories as endorsements of them personally rather than as an call for less government in our lives. His post is brief and worth your time. Dear Republicans, new and old: [...]

I’ve been saying for a while, and was delighted to see Glenn Beck s-p-e-l-l it out for the Republicans on his show yesterday:
GOP: This is your LAST chance. If you screw this one up, you are gone. Can you spell “gone”? W-H-I-G!
