Tea Party News – Input Requested
Posted by Prof | Filed under Uncategorized
We here at The Raffles have heard several stories about Tea Parties getting shut down or local dimwits trying to get them canceled; and even more about the supposed counter-protests, dirty-trick petitions from ACORN and other groups, and of course the H-P looking to report all the badness. So far, I can only dig up a few stories that seem to have any actual factual content.
Rutland, Vermont is supposedly cancelled.
Burleson, TX tried it too.
And of course, the lovely Cape Coral.
So, here is what we need from our readers:
1) If you are going to a Tea Party, in any city, please write somewhere on the Web what you saw, who you heard, and if you ran into any friction of any type.
2) Send us a link to your report. You can direct twitter us, email us, or just comment here on the blog with the link to your story.
3) PICTURES PICTURES PICTURES!
Now, folks, this isn’t shameless self promotion. I’m not going to say “No” to your input if you’re not wearing a Simon shirt. (Of course, if you are, or if you printed up one our signs, we will gladly show it off! We recognize PR value.) I don’t care if you just show up on your lunch break without a sign at all. We just want to be sure that the word gets out, that events neither get covered over blown out of proportion. We’d also like to document anything spectacularly idiotic the counter protesters try.
Here’s the best part: One lucky sender-inner will get a prize. Nope, not just a t-shirt from the Simon Jester store that anyone could order. Instead, we will pick a random participant and that person will receive a one-of-a-kind custom Simon Jester item. (It’s a surprise!)
So, break out those blackberries, digital cams, cellphones, etc. and keep us informed! See you all tomorrow.
Hey, Hey. Let’s be careful out there.

Supposedly Neil Cavuto from Fox News will be at the Sacramento rallies at noon. Having rid myself of the evil box years ago, I don’t know who he is, but what I’ve heard is good.

By way of stories with substantiation, this one might be worth looking into: http://www.examiner.com/examiner/x-3704-Columbia-Conservative-Examiner~y2009m4d15-ACORN-engages-in-destructive-activity-against-tea-parties
Apart from that, I will be at the Knoxville Tea Party with camera in-hand… how long of a period do we have to do our write-ups? Picture-taking is easy… documenting it all can be a pain

I think Hannity is supposed to be broadcasting from our Atlanta tea party tonight. I won’t be able to make, but I can look for news on it.

Local to me:

I can’t attend due to work, but it seems our local governments, while not happy about or understanding the protest (see the comment by Mr. Phillips), are not trying to stop it.

Heading out to the New Orleans Tea Party shortly, camera in hand. Our Congressman is on local talk radio right now, advocating Fair Tax or Flat Tax. Looking forward to reading all about the TEA Parties!

My first comment sees to have gone missing…?
I have some pix and a short report at my blog: http://njmisfit.blogspot.com/2009/04/tea-partied.html. There are actually three posts because blogger only allows five pix per post.

Nothing official yet, but some media members are saying that Sacramento had 20,000 to 25,000 in attendance!!
It was awesome.

You can find a bunch of pictures from the Chicago Tea Party as well as the Valparaiso Indiana Tea Party (including a pic with a guy with a Simon Jester sign) at: http://middleoftheright.blogspot.com
According to that site, the turnout in Chicago was in the thousands (not the hundreds the MSM is reporting) and there were several hundred at the Valparaiso party.

Houston Tea Party report, with video, at http://www.HoustonTPS.org. 8,532 people signed in as attendees (local ABC station had estimated 5,000.
I carried two signs, one from Simon Jester and one from Marshbaby. I don’t know how many people took pictures of them. One man used his phone to take a close-up of the SJ logo as a note of the URL so he could come to this blog!
