And It Is Still Amazing and Wonderful

In my country, I can travel to a spaceport, and watch, with my very own eyes, the launch of a SPACESHIP.
Pictures upon our return.
UPDATE: Traffic from Titusville to Cocoa Beach is unpossible after a launch. But…totally worth it. (click for larger)

I think it would be pretty cool to watch one of them land, too. I find in incredible that we have the world’s only active Spaceport.

I’ve watched several launches from afar, but I’ll never see one quite the same way again as I’m just about finished reading “Riding Rockets: The Outrageous Tales of A Space Shuttle Astronaut” by Astronaut Mike Mullane.
Definitely worth a look, it is in layman’s terms, occasionally hilarious and occasionally grim, there isn’t much one could want to know of a shuttle mission that isn’t covered.

I grew up in Titusville, FL, 1966-1974. I saw all the Saturn V/Apollo launches either from the shore of the Indian River across from Launch Complex 39, or from my front yard in the case of Apollo XVII.
I have yet to personally witness a shuttle launch, though there was one on the pad when I returned to Florida in 1995 on my honeymoon (STS-69 – rolled back to the VAB due to Hurricane Erin). I can’t imagine it would be more impressive than watching a Saturn leave the planet, but I’d still like to see one go.
